The action takes place in 1960s. After finishing school Victor Chernishev, a town dweller, decided not to bother continuing his education and found a job at a factory as turner. He considered it normal that his friends were enraptured with the stories of his peer Kolya, a sponger, bragging all the time about his victories over women.
