Johan and Esther loved each other and have amassed six children in a happy marriage. All of them are members of the Mennonite community and hold their special religion sacred. Their seemingly great feeling for each other and even more – to God, as well as family well-being are broken by an even greater feeling – Johan’s love to Mariana and Mariana’s to Johan. On the one hand, this situation is an enormous problem for all. And on the other hand, the "vanity of vanities: all is vanity. For the sun rises and the sun sets, and hurries to its place, there to rise again."
