Born on May 11, 1952, in Tehran, Iran, she is an American actress of Iranian descent.

Agdashloo began acting at the age of 18. After numerous leading roles on the theatrical stage, she was offered her first film role in the 1977 movie "Report." During the Islamic Revolution, Agdashloo left Iran and moved to England in 1978, where she completed her education.

Agdashloo made her debut in the United States in 1989 with a role in the film "Guests of Hotel Astoria," during the same period she began making occasional appearances on television.

In 2003, Agdashloo finally landed one of her most memorable roles in the film "House of Sand and Fog," for which she earned praise from both critics and audiences. She won the Independent Spirit Award, the Los Angeles Film Critics Association Award, the New York Film Critics Circle Award, the Online Film Critics Society Award, and a nomination for an Oscar in 2004 in the "Best Supporting Actress" category.

In 2009, she won an Emmy Award for her role in the HBO miniseries "House of Saddam."
