Four partisans cross over to their own people and try to evade pursuit by the Germans. Among them, there are the pregnant radio operator Klava, the wounded Levchuk, the dying Tikhonov, and the rider Griboyed. They manage to hide in the village threshing floor, but in the end, only the newborn baby and Levchuk survive.
