A police chief of a small resort town, Matthias Lee Whitlock, is upset that his wife leaves him and starts an affair with a married woman Ann Maryiah Harrison. He soon discovers that his new girlfriend has cancer, and her husband, apparently, wants to get a very large insurance for his wife's death. Matthias decides to go for malfeasance to help Anne undergo treatment in an expensive clinic abroad, and Anne, in gratitude for his care, makes Matthias confidant to receive payment from the insurance company. Suddenly Ann and her husband die, and all the evidence points to the hero of Denzel Washington. He needs to prove his innocence, because the number of suspects is reduced, and there is less and less time left.
