Colonel Fawcett, a member of the Royal Geographical Society, was one of the most prominent researchers in South America of the early XX century. Most of all he was interested in the central regions of Brazil, where he had been seven times between 1906 and 1924. His last expedition was in 1925. He was going to look for a lost city in the state of Mato Grosso. Before leaving, he commanded not to organize to a search group if he does not return by the deadline. Fossett did not return, and repeated attempts to establish the fate of the expedition and its route did not bring anything.
