Going to one of the mountain republics to collect folklore, the film's hero Shurik falls in love with a pretty girl - "an athlete, an excellent student, and just a beautiful girl". But she is suddenly kidnapped to be forced to marry. The naive Shurik could not easily figure out what was going on under his nose - but then he bravely rushed to release "the captive".
