The film is about the relations on the production and socialist competition. As it always happens in Soviet films, work processes are developed on the background of a complicated intertwining love stories. The main heroine Mariana Kudel is the best milker in the kolkhoz "Trud", actively criticizes the conservative president, and so now she works with the palest hue cows. She obviously opposed to Kate Kvitko, the record holder for milk yield. She is strongly supported by the president. While busy on the parade hype, Kate pays little attention to the work, quarrels with her lover zootechnician Vasyl and her friend Mariana. As a result of her carelessness the cow Sorceress dyed. Mariana is working from morning to night, and soon she takes the first place. Kate takes only a fifth place. Mariana loves Vasyl, but still helps him and Kate to find each other again…
