Sarah Corso thinks that she is happy with her boyfriend, Xander, a young man who thinks he knows what he wants. But when Xander proposes to her, Sarah feels real horror from such a prospect. Although she loves him and wants to spend her life with him, she's genuinely afraid to repeat the fate of her mother, who did not have the normal development of relations: love, marriage, children, and so on, until the day when she suffered a nervous breakdown and left her two daughters. Now Sarah and Xander, with the help of each other, their friends and family, have to work through the fear and anger, to see whether there is something left from their love on the other side.
