Andrey Vasilkov and his friend Gulka decide to play a hoax on a group of foreign tourists by pretending as if one of them was drawing. A young reporter Yegor Podushkin witnesses all this and boosts the story. The two friends become heroes, with their portraits hanging all over the city telling about the heroic rescue of the drowning man. Radio stations are waiting to have an interview with them, and a film studio is planning to make a movie about them. Soon they realize that it will not be so easy to backpedal. In a couple of days there will be a celebration, during which they will be given a medal for “rescuing the drowning man”…
