Abe Lucas, a philosophy professor is ruined. He has no joy in life and sees no sense in living. He comes to a small collage and starts relationships with two very unlike women. Rita, his new colleague, believes he will free her from unhappy marriage, while Jill, his best student, becomes a close friend to him. But the girl is driven by his creative nature and his mysterious past, and she starts estranging herself from her boyfriend. Everything changes when Abe and Jill overhear a conversation.
