Jan Hus is the national hero of the Czech people, preacher, philosopher, ideologist of the Czech Reformation, who has not yet been rehabilitated by the Vatican. He ended his life at the stake of the Inquisition in 1415. Occupying the highest ecclesiastical position and being a deeply religious man, John Huss, however, subjected the policy of the Catholic Church to sharp criticism and fought for the national identity of the Czechs against the Germans. After the execution of Jan Hus, the Hussite wars began, which continued for almost 15 years. Dying at the stake, Jan Hus predicted the emergence of the great reformer in hundred years – of Martin Luther, whose undertakings wouldn’t be destroyed, "I am a Gus, and after me will come the Swan!"
