Miaka Yuki and Yui Hongo are two best friends and are completely different in their nature. One day they find themselves in a closed archive in the library, where they find a book “The Universe of the Four Gods”, which will fulfill all the desires of those who’ll read it. They began to read it and fall into another world, similar to ancient China, and end up in the hands of bandits. A young man Tamahome rescues them, but having learned that they have no money abandons them. They both fall in love with the mysterious savior. This world consists of four states, located in four parts of the world, each of which has a God - the Dragon for the East, the Bird for the South, the Tiger for the West, and the Tortoise for the North. According to the legend, time to time, girls, who are destined to become priestess of these gods, come from another world to collect Seven Celestial Warriors and to invoke the God to fulfill any three wishes. By a twist of fate Miaka becomes a priestess of Suzaku, guarding Conan, and Yuki – priestess of Seiryu, the patron of Kuto, whose ruler wants to conquer other three states and is going to use the divine power of Seiryu. Girls become enemies due to their personal reasons (they are both in love with Tamahome, one of the Suzaku guardians) and due to their destinies (Suzaku and Seiryu are eternal enemies).
