Edith Beresh was one of the most popular Soviet theatre and film actresses. She also had a happy marriage being a wife of a well-known dramatist and script writer Lebed. But besides all that Edith was a willful and uncompromising woman. Her extravagant behavior often displeased Soviet officials. And, in addition, having gone to Paris with a delegation, Edith made friends with Coco Chanel. Only an exemplary work of her husband served as some sort of a shield for the actress. After the beginning of the war Edith went to the front to perform with concert crews. Her husband was also at war working as front-line correspondent. In one of the rear southern towns he met Leda Nezhina, an actress he had before the war offered her to act in films. After the war Edith was deprived of acting for her slapping a general who tried to harass her sexually. The general made everything he could to make her life unbearable. Being worried about her husband’s career she convinced him to live apart for a while. After a while Edith was put in prison camp. Her husband started dating Leda Nezhina who by that time had occupied the niche of the most popular Soviet actress. After many years, the two women happened to be in the same home for elderly actors. They would, probably, have not recognized each other if not the nurse Stephanie, who had dug up their history somewhere and decided to shoot a documentary film about them.
