The mess, devastation and famine reigns after the end of the Second World War in Germany. Lewis Morgan is a British soldier, and now a new, though temporary, mayor of Hamburg. There is a difficult task in front of him — in fact, to rebuild the city. The Morgan family settles in a mansion, where a German architect already lives with his daughter.
