Events of the movie are unfolding on the eve of the First World War. Young Irisz Leiter arrives in Budapest to get a job at a popular hat store that in the past belonged to her late parents. The owner of the shop fires the girl who became a victim of cruel intrigues. Irisz decides to start her own investigation and to find out what really happened to her family.
