The plot is based on the memories of English pilot Ralph Chadwick, who found himself in the territory of the Soviet Union in 1944. After his bomber was shot down by the Nazis, the Russian teacher Katherine picked a seriously wounded pilot and cared for the sick, hiding him in the basement of the school. They had a little friend - fearless schoolboy Vasyukov. When Chadwick became stronger, the three of them went to the partisans. Breaking through the German screener the heroes engaged in battle - and the woman was seriously wounded. The last meters were unbearably difficult, but all the three have reached the group. Chadwick was flown to Moscow soon - and the heroes parted forever.
