In early June 1942, one of the largest battles of the American navy near the atoll in the Pacific with the Japanese took place. Admiral Chester Nimitz, commanding the troops, delivered a crushing blow to the enemy, depriving forever the ability to conduct military operations in the water. The battle went down in history and was called the Battle of Midway.
