France, the 17th century. The impoverished Baron de Sigongac allows a troupe of wandering actors to spend the night in his castle. In the end, being tired of the rural life, the young Baron decides to go with them to Paris. Along the way, one of the actors dies and de Sigongac takes his place and begins to play the role of Captain Fracass. During a performance in the capital, a young actress Isabelle attracts the attention of a wealthy Duke. When she refused his advances, the Duke threatened to kidnap her, but the girl’s heart already belongs to the young Baron.
