The movie is based on Fyodor Dostoevsky’s novel of the same name. Alexey Ivanovich is a teacher of General Zagotyansky’s children. He goes to a German town together with them, where they live waiting for their Grandmother’s death in order to get her enormous heritage. But she comes to them herself and loses all her money getting too excited in a game. On the background, a love story of Alexey Ivanovich and Polina, the general’s daughter is evolving.
