In the first round of the Copa America group stage, the USA will face Bolivia at AT&T Stadium in Arlington in Group C. The opponents have crossed paths only three times. The sole meeting in this tournament was in a similar round in 1995, when Bolivia won 1-0 in Paysandu. In 2016 and 2018, the teams played friendlies in Kansas City and Chester, with the Stars and Stripes celebrating resounding victories on both occasions (4-0, 3-0). In early June, the Americans participated in friendlies against Colombia in Landover, losing 1-5, and Brazil in Orlando, drawing 1-1. The Multinational State team suffered defeats in two friendly matches against Mexico in Chicago, 0-1, and Ecuador in Chester, 1-3.

It's the second time the United States is hosting the competition. The national team have previously participated in four tournaments (debut in 1993). On two occasions, the Stars and Stripes failed to advance past the group stage. Under Berhalter's guidance, the team have suffered three defeats in their last six matches. In March, the team won Division A of the CONCACAF Nations League, securing a 2-0 victory over Mexico in the final.

Bolivia have represented their country twenty-eight times in the Copa America. Since the early 2000s, La Verde have advanced to the knockout stage only once (2015). The Green squad have lost nine of their last eleven matches, with exceptions including victories against Peru in World Cup qualifiers, 2-0, and a friendly match against Andorra, 1-0. Since October 2021, the Multinational State team have only drawn once, against Chile, 0-0.
