This highly anticipated event, dubbed the "Battle of Giants," is one of the biggest of the year by the Professional Fighters League (PFL). Ngannou, known as "The Predator," has not competed in mixed martial arts (MMA) since January 2022. In March, he fought in a boxing match against British boxer Anthony Joshua, where he suffered a second-round knockout loss. His upcoming opponent, Renan Ferreira, claimed a swift victory over American fighter Ryan Bader in February, winning in just 21 seconds. That victory earned him the PFL-Bellator super belt.

The Cameroonian fighter, Ngannou, began his MMA career in November 2013. Before that, "The Predator" had been involved in boxing but had to give it up due to health issues. Thanks to his contract with the Professional Fighters League, Ngannou has been able to make a temporary return to boxing. Aside from his knockout loss to Anthony Joshua, Ngannou also faced Tyson Fury and lost by split decision.

Renan Ferreira made his MMA debut just two weeks later, though the Brazilian is three years younger than his opponent. "The Problem" has 13 wins in 19 fights, including 11 knockouts. He has been competing in the PFL since spring 2021 and has fought 11 times, with only one loss to Croatian fighter Ante Delija in the first round.
