An international friendly between Slovenia and Bosnia and Herzegovina will take place at the Z'dežele Stadium in Celje. The teams have faced off three times in Central Europe. During the 1998 World Cup qualifiers, the Blue-Yellows won 2–1 in Ljubljana, scoring twice before halftime. The decisive goal came from former Real Sociedad and Tenerife striker Meho Kodro—it was one of just three goals he scored for the national team. In 2008, the visitors triumphed again, this time in an entertaining friendly at Ljudski vrt Stadium in Maribor, winning 4–3. That match saw the debut goal for the Dragons' all-time top scorer, Edin Džeko. In 2013, the Yellow-Blues cruised to a 3–0 victory in Ljubljana, with Miralem Pjanić involved in all three goals.

In March, Slovenia secured their spot in UEFA Nations League Division B. Their two-legged playoff against Slovakia was decided by a single goal scored over 210 minutes. Over the past year, Matjaž Kek’s side has won only twice at home. Since June 2022, the national team’s only home loss came against Norway, 1–4.

Prior to this year, Bosnia and Herzegovina had gone winless in 12 consecutive matches. However, the Golden Lilies opened their World Cup qualifying campaign with back-to-back victories. Since December 2021, the Dragons have won just two away games—against Liechtenstein (2–0) and Romania (1–0). In their last eight road matches, the Yellow-Blues have conceded 20 goals.
