Toward the end of the war, the American cruiser Indianopolis delivers a nuclear warhead to a military base located on the island of Tinian. On the way back, this ship is torpedoed by the Japanese, and no one hears the Americans' distress call. The survivors begin to envy the dead, for now they are under the merciless sun in an ocean inhabited by bloodthirsty sharks.
