Larry Diamond is a professor of political science and sociology at Stanford University, where he teaches courses on democracy, democratic development, and American foreign policy.

At various points in his life, Diamond was an advisor to many governmental and international organizations, including the U.S. Department of State, the United Nations, the World Bank, and the U.S. Agency for International Development. The man is one of the founders and co-editors of the Journal of Democracy, published by the National Endowment for Democracy. Larry Diamond is also the coordinator of the Iran Democracy Project at the Hoover Institution, along with Abbas Milani and Michael McFaul.

Diamond's research focuses on democratic trends and conditions around the world, as well as policies and reforms to protect and advance democracy. His most recent book, "Ill Winds: Saving Democracy from Russian Rage, Chinese Ambition, and American Complacency" (2019), analyzes the challenges facing liberal democracy in the United States and around the world at a critical juncture in history and proposes an agenda for strengthening and defending democracy at homeland and abroad.
