Because of the protracted war in Sudan, locals are forced to flee to other countries. The children Mamere, Jeremiah, Paul, and Abital manage to escape to a refugee camp in Kenya. Later, the characters are lucky again when they have the opportunity to go to America. There they meet a woman who agrees to host them in her home.
