Warsaw, 1930. Ambitious medical student Emil Heckmann learns that his sister has died after an illegal abortion. The tragedy was the result of violence. Emil suspects a mysterious man from the personal ads in a matchmaking magazine and gets a job there. He blames the editorial office for the death of his loved one. The editor-in-chief, Maximilian Wróblewski, feels no guilt about the content they publish. However, his wife Helena decides to help Emil find the real culprit and restore justice.
