Alaves

The club from the city of Vitoria-Gasteiz was founded in 1920 and their first name was Sport Friends but were later renamed to their current name, Deportivo Alavés. The date of the renaming, January 23, 1921, is considered the date of the club's foundation. "Alaves" are over 100 years old, but despite their long history, the team have been playing in the highest Spanish division since the 2016/17 season. Previously, Alaves went down to the Segunda División and returned to La Liga, but never stayed there for long. The club are known to fans, above all, for being the first club to rise to the top division from La Liga 2. The club's main achievement is that they reached the UEFA Cup Final in 2000/01.
