John Dolittle

John Dolittle is the main character in the works of Hugh Lofting. John has extraordinary abilities. He can communicate with animals, heal them, and find incredible adventures with his clever head.

John lives with his sister Sarah in the small made-up town of Puddleby-on-the-Marsh in Southwest England. He used to be an ordinary doctor, but the hero lost all his clients because of his excessive love of animals. However, John gained loyal friends: the duck Dab-Dab, the antelope Pushmi-Pullyu, the dog Jip, the Gub-Gub pig, and the Polynesia parrot. The Parrot taught him animal language, and after that began his story as the first veterinarian to understand animals, and his popularity spread around the world.
