The London club finished last season’s English league campaign in fifteenth place and earned a spot in the main stage thanks to its triumph in the Conference League. The Polish champions began their European campaign in the Champions League qualifiers, where they were eliminated by Aarhus, after which they came through the Europa League qualifiers, overcoming KÍ Klaksvík and Thun. The match will mark the beginning of the head-to-head history between the two clubs.

Crystal Palace is only playing its third European campaign in history, having made its debut in the 1998 UEFA Intertoto Cup. The London team had never previously played in the Europa League. In nine home matches in European competitions, the hosts have suffered two defeats, losing to Samsunspor and AEK Larnaca. At the same time, in their previous four matches at home, the English side conceded just one goal — in a victory over Shakhtar Donetsk. The team needs to take control of the game immediately, make use of the flanks, and defend reliably.

Lech first played in the tournament in the 1978/79 season and is participating in it for the sixteenth time. The Polish club has played in England twice, losing to Liverpool in the 1984/85 European Cup and Manchester City in the 2010/11 Europa League. However, in its last sixteen away matches under UEFA competition, the Poznań side has suffered only three defeats. The visitors will need to withstand the hosts’ early tempo, tightly close down approaches to their penalty area, and make the most of their limited counterattacking opportunities.
