The history of head-to-head meetings between these two teams includes just one friendly, played in 2008, which Northern Ireland won 4-1. The upcoming game will be their first official meeting. Both sides come into the start of the competitive cycle with different backgrounds in this tournament.

In the previous Nations League cycle, Georgia played in Division B and finished third in its group. It kept its place thanks to play-off matches against Armenia, which it won 6-1 and 3-0. Since the summer of 2023, it has picked up only two away wins, beating Scotland in a friendly and Luxembourg in World Cup qualifying.
