In qualifying for Euro 2004, the teams played out a 0-0 draw in Donetsk. Ukraine's national team did not lose a single time on home soil in the two previous editions of the Nations League. Heading into the new matches, it faces a personnel loss: due to an injury, Utrecht forward Artem Stepanov will not be able to help the national team. The striker was injured in the first half of the game against Feyenoord and left the pitch. For participation in the current stage of the competition, each League B national team will receive 1.5 million euros from UEFA, and the group winner will earn the same amount as a bonus. Northern Ireland's national team builds its squad predominantly from representatives of English leagues, including six players from Premier League clubs. The largest representation went to Oxford United, with three players. Ahead of the start of the current tournament, it had won only one of its twelve previous away matches, suffering eight defeats. The only successful away game in that stretch came against Luxembourg in World Cup qualifying, which ended with a 3-1 result.
