The head-to-head history between these teams includes meetings during the group stage of the 2020/21 top-division season. In that campaign, the Polish side secured a convincing 3-0 win in Wrocław, with Robert Lewandowski scoring two goals and providing an assist. In addition, this century, the two sides have played three friendlies in Central Europe: the Poles won twice by a 1-0 score, while another friendly in 2010 ended in a 2-2 draw.

Poland's national team had an unsuccessful previous Nations League campaign in Division A, picking up just four points in their group. The current competitive year began with the team taking part in World Cup qualifying playoffs. In the semifinal, the Polish players beat Albania's national team 2-1, but lost the decisive match for a spot at the tournament to Sweden, 2-3. Bosnia and Herzegovina's national team also failed to hold their place in the top division in the previous tournament cycle, failing to win a single one of six rounds and earning just two points. However, in the spring World Cup qualifying playoffs, the Bosnian team sensationally reached the tournament, getting past Wales and Italy on penalties after 1-1 draws. In friendlies before the World Cup, Bosnia drew with North Macedonia and Panama, and at the World Cup itself they ended their run in the round of 32, losing to the USA 0-2.
