Eleven months later, the Cypriot side was again stronger at Tasos Markou Stadium in Paralimni, winning 2-0. In March 2024, the visitors managed to salvage a draw in Larnaca in the 85th minute, with the match ending 1-1.

The Cyprus national team began the new competitive season with an away loss. Apostolos Mantzios' side opened the scoring in Podgorica but ultimately lost 1-2 to Montenegro. Forward Marcus Edwards scored his first goal for the national team in his debut appearance. The player received his passport only this September and was immediately called up to the national team, although he had represented England at the youth and U-21 levels. Another naturalized player, Brazilian-born goalkeeper Fabiano, started in goal for the team.

The Latvia national team lost 0-2 to Armenia in the first round, managing just one shot on target throughout the match. Nineteen-year-old midfielder Markuss Strods started for the visitors, with the Dublin-born player making his first appearance for the national team. Near the end of regulation time, forward Albert Aleksanyan came on — the ethnic Armenian had previously played at the club level in the Norwegian and Swedish leagues.
