The Bosnia and Herzegovina team had suffered just one defeat in its previous seven home matches before the start of the tournament, losing 1-2 to Austria in World Cup qualifying. During that stretch, the team failed to score only in a 0-0 friendly against North Macedonia in Sarajevo. However, the hosts enter the current campaign with a major loss: Edin Džeko has announced his retirement from the national team. The former Manchester City and Roma forward represented his country's senior team for 20 years.

The Poland national team has managed to defeat only Lithuania, 2-0, and Malta, 3-2, in its last eight away matches, both in World Cup qualifying. The match in Kaunas was only the team's second away clean sheet since 2023. Over the last four years, Poland have drawn just once away from home, sharing the points with the Netherlands in World Cup qualifying, 1-1. Against this backdrop, the visitors' leaders continue to rewrite the record books. Robert Lewandowski set a new record for national team appearances with his 169th match, while Piotr Zieliński moved into outright second place with 111 appearances.
