The second-round match of the Europa League league phase, Lech — Bayer, will take place at Poznań Stadium. Last season, the hosts won their tenth Polish championship title. During the summer, the Polish club attempted to qualify for the Champions League, but lost to Danish side AGF Aarhus in a penalty shootout. After that, the team confidently made it through the Europa League qualifying cycle, successively defeating Faroe Islands side KÍ Klaksvík and Swiss club Thun. Meanwhile, Leverkusen finished sixth in the previous edition of the German Bundesliga and received a direct spot in the main stage of European competition.

Lech suffered a heavy 0-4 defeat to Crystal Palace in the opening round. Notably, the team's debut home match in the 1978/79 UEFA Cup was against German side Duisburg, ending 2-5. Later, the Polish side hosted Borussia Mönchengladbach in the same tournament, losing 0-2 in the 1985/86 campaign. Overall, the hosts have suffered four defeats in their previous eight home matches in the Europa League.

Bayer opened the league phase with a convincing 2-0 victory over Slovenian side Celje. The German club has an excellent record away from home and has lost only once in its last ten away matches in the tournament, falling 0-1 to Italian side Roma in the 2022/23 semifinal. Leverkusen previously traveled to Poland twice to face Katowice in the UEFA Cup, recording 2-1 and 4-1 victories in the 1990/91 and 1994/95 campaigns, respectively. At the same time, since 2020, the German team has failed to score in only three away matches in the Europa League.
