Celje opened the league phase with a 0-2 away loss to Bayer Leverkusen. The Slovenian team first played in this European competition back in the 2003/04 season. However, since then, it has played only nine home matches in the tournament, recording three wins and three losses. The hosts have previously welcomed Cypriot clubs twice on the international stage: in the 2024/25 Conference League round of 16, it drew 2-2 with APOEL, while in qualifying for last season's Europa League, it drew 1-1 with AEK.

Omonia secured a narrow 1-0 home victory over Spanish side Celta in the opening round, scoring the decisive goal late in the match. At the same time, the Cypriot team has experienced serious difficulties in away games and has recorded just two wins in its previous fifteen away matches in the tournament: 2-0 over Belgian side Gent and 1-0 over Armenian club Banants. During this stretch, the Cypriot side failed to score in eight matches.
