Kir Lopuhov and Alyosja Mamylin are two classmates who have just received a school-leaving certificate. As the war breaks out they enter into the same artillery school. They have only three days to say goodbye to their classmates, and Kir has to find his girlfriend Olga no matter what. It was rumoured that she returned to the city to enrol into a university. A chance meeting with Olga in the subway on the eve of his departure awakes his feelings. He brings Olga to his father’s house and goes to the front.
