Pavel is s cabman, whose daughters Maro and Tamara dream to go dance class. But where to get money? Vardo, a kind and cheerful laundress is trying to help them, but goes in prison for theft. The whole city rebels. Students, bakers, merchants, thieves, wipers and musicians come out on the streets demanding Vardo to be released from prison.
