The central figure of the 2017 documentary Francis MESLET: Silence Photographer is Francis Meslet, a photographer who travels across different countries in search of abandoned places where time seems to have stood still. Through his work, Meslet seeks to capture the beauty and melancholy of forgotten corners of the world. He explores deserted churches, schools, factories, and other buildings that were once full of life but now stand silent and empty.

Among his most renowned photographic series are images of historic French mansions, abandoned Italian villas, theatres in Germany, monasteries in Spain, and the ruins of old factories in Belgium. Silence Photographer has received international recognition, with Meslet’s work exhibited in galleries and featured in art magazines around the world. His photographs reveal that beauty can be found even in decay, and that silence often holds countless untold stories.

The documentary was created with the participation of journalist Lucie Tavernier, known for her work on Lille, Above All. She was joined by sculptor Didier Decqwar, who studied at the School of Applied Arts in Roubaix. The film also features music by Toronto-based musician Aidan Baker, who has released numerous recordings as part of Mnemosyne, Nadja, Caudal, and ARC. He is also known for his performances at festivals across the United States and Canada.

The soundtrack was further enriched by composer David Chalmin, a member of the trio Triple Sun. His work has been presented at venues such as the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles and the Philharmonie de Paris. The documentary also features Christian Debize, Director of ENSAD Nancy — the National School of Art and Design.
