The film titled The Song of the Print invites viewers into the laboratory of photographer Bruno Devaele, where he is preparing for his next photography exhibition. He has a secret to his success, and it is not modern digital technology. One of the key factors that makes his images and photographs so distinctive is his close collaboration with fellow artist Antoine Agoujian.

It might seem that today there are no difficulties in obtaining a high-quality photograph, even for beginners. A mobile phone is enough, and in some cases even a simple push-button device can be used for photography. If that is not sufficient, one can always buy a professional camera, which is what many photographers do. Bruno Devaele, however, considers his work a form of art in its own right. He understands that truly unique photography requires more than just advanced digital sensors and modern equipment — something else is needed.

Technological progress knows no limits, but the laws of physics and chemistry still apply. This is what Bruno Devaele relies on. In his intimate laboratory, Antoine Agoujian occasionally visits, and from him Devaele commissions large-format silver prints. These are used in the most important stage for any photographer — the printing of the photograph. The audience learns about this creative “alchemy” throughout the short film The Song of the Print.

This work will help professionals understand the nuances of photographic printing, while curious viewers will be able to broaden their knowledge. The project was produced by Museum TV, a media platform specializing in programs about art and visual culture. The producers include Sylvie Doumayne, Jérôme Kempa, and Julian Lévis.
