Thirty-year-old single mother Essi works at a gas station and struggles to cope with the rebellious behavior of her teenage daughter, Takku. The girl constantly gets into fights and frequently changes schools. Takku's new teacher is Lasse, a man who was in love with Essi when they were young. At the same time, an elderly man named Sakke enters the family's life and may turn out to be Essi's father. She decides to recruit her newfound relative as a school aide to help with her unruly daughter.
