Philip Pirrip has been living in a house of his older sister and her husband Joe since he was seven. After a certain chain of events his life changes greatly. Firstly, he helps an escaped convict to get rid of fetters. After that he meets a cute girl Estella - the adopted daughter of Miss Havisham. Finally, once a lawyer Jagger comes and says that someone who wants to stay anonymous is willing to give Pirrip a brilliant future and he needs to go to London and become a gentleman. Pip thinks that an anonymous benefactor is Miss Havisham and builds up hopes to engage with Estella.
