The main character of the movie — the famous poet and teacher Abai Kunanbayev in Kazakhstan, stands up for his student Aydar, who has violated patriarchal foundations. Aydar fell in love with Azhar, a young widow, and secretly took her from the village. He must be brought before the court of elders for this. During the trial, Abai proves that love is above obsolete prejudices.
