Dzhumagali and his six-year-old grandson Akhan reside in a provincial Kazakh village. Akhan’s parents died. Although the boy helps his grandfather with housework, the old man’s health is already not what it was. Knowing that he doesn’t have much time to live, Dzhumagali sends the boy to live with relatives in the city. He stays in the village to live out his days.
