Post-war London does not inspire the young writer Juliet to write a new book. But by the twist of fate she gets a letter from a certain Dawsey — a pig breeder from the island of Guernsey. He asks the girl for advice on books to read, and complains that there are few books on the island. So the girl gets involved in correspondence with different people and enjoys the history of the book club, which has become a place for forbidden meetings.
