The action takes place in 1931 – the year of the Great Depression in the United States. Emma’s father, after her mother died, sends the little girl to her aunt who lives in a small town of Dovervill. The girl quickly assimilates into a new place, and together with the local boys begins to struggle to save a shelter for stray dogs.
