Andrew and his fifth grade fellows find badly bound typewritten pages with the inscription "Attack" in a pile of recyclables. The boys are absorbed in this collection of front-line stories, written by Bukin, who happenes to live nearby, in the next block. Not young and sickly, he, however, still stands up to the blows of fate. He put his back to the conservation of forest resources, and in his spare time, he continues to write stories, remembering certain episodes of the rich life at the front-line.
