The film follows the first years of socialist construction. There is a cultural base situated in tundra, thousands miles away from the railroad. The head of the base and a woman, who works as a teacher, visit nomad camps, where they meet hunters and reindeer breeders trying to persuade them to live a new lifestyle – to use hospitals, to give children to schools.
