England, the beginning of the XX century. Angela Deverell, a poor but charming girl, who possesses literary talent, lives in dreams of fame, success and love. Publication of her first opus allows her to get out of the provincial poverty and to live in an old mansion, where she begins to develop a secular way of life. Dreaming of becoming a famous novelist and socialite, she takes lessons of playing on the harp and furnishes her life with fanciful paintings and sculptures. But meanwhile the most absurd mistakes and adventures accompany her way up the social ladder.
